Guinness World Records documents and celebrates superlative achievements that are the best in the world. Record-breaking is a serious business, which means we have strict policies governing what constitutes a Guinness World Records title in order to maintain these high standards.
This May 26, 2022, Whitby is attempting to break the record for the largest gathering of people dressed as vampires! The current world record stands at 1039.
It will be an eerie night of fun at the hometown of Dracula, to mark the 125th anniversary of Bram Stoker’s iconic novel. In partnership with GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ wear your best vampire attire, join in the fun and be a part of this memorable event.

6:00 PM– Doors open
6:45 PM – Official record attempt
7:30 PM – A special performance of excerpts from Bram Stoker’s Dracula by Time Will Tell Theatre
8:15 PM – Live music
9:00 PM – Site closes
Everyone can get involved in this event. Entry to the abbey will be FREE for all those who attend in traditional vampire fancy dress and who intend to participate in the world record attempt. The only exceptions to this are an adult accompanying a child in costume or an adult assisting a less able visitor in costume.
In order to be officially counted as a vampire, participants MUST be wearing a full, traditional vampire fancy dress costume:
- Black trousers or dress
- Black shoes
- Waistcoat
- Shirt
- Black cape or collared overcoat (a different colour on the inside is allowed)
- Fangs on the top set of teeth
