What is a Jubilee? Jubilees mark a major milestone in the reign of a Monarch, celebrating their life and service. The naming of these celebrations follows the traditions of wedding anniversaries: 25 years is called a Silver Jubilee, 50 years a Golden Jubilee, 60 years a Diamond Jubilee, and 70 years a Platinum Jubilee.
It’s The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and we’re celebrating with fun-filled events! If you’re traveling to Whitby over the Jubilee Weekend and want to join in a street party, head to Silver Street. You can enjoy the fancy food & drink, face painting and explore the local businesses, such as art galleries and homeware.
A jubilee is a celebration of the life and reign of a monarch. Rather than happening every year, Jubilees only mark significant milestones, making them more special. Each Jubilee has a name, used to reflect a certain length of time: Silver Jubilee: marks 25 years on the throne.
In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. Get involved in celebrating Her Majesty’s historic reign in the run-up to the Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend which takes place from 2nd to 5th June.
This event will be from the 4th & 5th June, 10 am – 4 pm. Join in the celebrations and help support local businesses.
