Lots of Fun on Boxing Day after Christmas Day

Boxing Day is celebrated on the next day after Christmas in the United Kingdom and British territories. People give money and presents to the needy on this auspicious day. Christmas festivities are in full swing in the UK and other British countries as they look forward to celebrating Boxing Day on December 26, 2022.

In Britain, it was a custom for tradesmen to collect “Christmas boxes” of money or presents on the first weekday after Christmas as thanks for good service throughout the year. This is mentioned in Samuel Pepys’ diary entry for 19 December 1663.

Boxing Day is a public holiday (meaning a paid day off) in the UK, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and Jamaica. Big sales jump off on Boxing Day a la Black Friday. Friends and family gather to eat together and to attend sporting events like horse racing and soccer.

One main such as pie or turkey curry served with winter slaw and some tasty pickles and chutneys makes for a fabulous boxing day feast. Delicious glazed ham, served hot or cold, is a treat for any Christmas celebration. Serve with a creamy mustard sauce and golden, garlicky roasted new potatoes.

On Boxing Day most families in Britain begin to use up the left-over turkey from Christmas Day. What is this? There is usually an enormous joint of gammon ham or roast beef still around from Christmas Eve as well. So, COLD CUTS (or ‘leftovers’ in American parlance) becomes traditional Boxing Day fare.

May you have an incredible day with your friends and family. Wishing you a blissful boxing day this year! I hope the fulfillment of sharing happiness touches all your lives! Happy Boxing Day 2022!
