Whitby Goth Weekend

Twice a year Whitby is host to an alternative music festival and unique market, attracting thousands of goths and alternative lifestyle fans to the popular seaside town. Enjoy a weekend of shopping, drinking and live music, with plenty of eye-catching outfits to admire.

Whitby Abbey is a highly favoured visitor attraction for Goths who come to Whitby. This is partly due to the haunting description that Bram Stoker gave it in Dracula but also for its appearance now. In the darkness, the ruins of this once great Gothic building look haunting, spooky, yet still majestic.

Outfits are often made up of layers of black. Black pants with a black shirt and a black jacket is a common outfit for a gothic teen. The black clothes tend to convey a mood of depression and, in many instances, a fascination with death.

The Goth Weekend usually takes place in the seaside town of Whitby twice a year in April and October (sometimes November) coinciding with Halloween.

Is there a charge to visit the Bizarre Bazaar Alternative Market? Admission to all Trading Areas of the Official Bizarre Bazaar Alternative Market is free of charge, and they are open between 10am-5pm Fri/Sat and 10am-4pm Sun.

Is Whitby Goth Weekend Busy? If you are a seasoned visitor or a first timer, one thing to remember about WGW is that it’s busy. And that’s an understatement! If you are absorbing the atmosphere and enjoying the immersive experience, then remember to put on some comfy footwear.

Brilliant music, good food. Amazing atmosphere in the main room, great sound, big screens comfortable and friendly polite staff. Great views over Whitby harbour. Well worth s visit if you are in the area.
